BEMUS POINT - Refuse collection in Bemus Point will occur Monday mornings, rather than sporadically through the day, according to Jill Braund, village clerk.
"Beginning Monday, Casella is going to have a truck in the village, starting at 7 a.m., which is going to collect the garbage," said Braund.
In the past, waste has always been collected on Monday, however the time of collection has caused some confusion for residents. According to Braund, some residents would arrive at home on Mondays, following work, to find their waste still sitting out by the curb. Residents would sometimes bring their waste back to their home, thinking that they may have been skipped on accident, when Casella simply hadn't arrived to collect the waste yet.
By scheduling all refuse collection on Monday morning, Casella and the village hope to remedy such confusion in the future.
"We've had residents in the past call us at 5 p.m., claiming that they were missed, then the truck would eventually arrive at 6 p.m.," said Braund. "It never happened frequently, but Casella is very diligent in checking in with us and making sure that we're satisfied with their service. This is something that was brought to their attention, and this is how they are going to correct it."
While an announcement from Casella said that a truck would arrive in Bemus Point at 7 a.m. on Mondays, Braund said that best practice would be to anticipate the truck "first thing in the morning."
"I wouldn't hold them to 7 a.m. on the dot, but it would be a good idea to place waste outside before going to bed the night before," said Braund.
Braund added that the change in service is not the result of complaints, but rather a way to improve service for the village of Bemus Point.
"This has come out of conversations with Casella about how things can be done better," said Braund. "There haven't been complaints, it's just something that we've noticed."
