Greg Edwards is set to become the chief executive officer for the Gebbie Foundation this fall.
The foundation's board of directors announced Thursday the appointment of the outgoing Chautauqua County executive to its CEO position.
Edwards' position with the Gebbie Foundation will be effective Nov. 15. Edwards has held the office of county executive since 2006. Prior to his election as county executive, Edwards had been engaged as a partner in two local law firms.
"Greg brings a diverse set of experiences to the Gebbie Foundation," said Kristy Zabrodsky, Gebbie board president. "His knowledge of both the public and private sectors will help us further our strategic focus and will enhance our collaborations with community and regional partners. We are extremely excited to welcome Greg to the foundation team."
Edwards is a member of many professional organizations and boards. Last year, Gov. Andrew Cuomo appointed him to the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council. Edwards is also a member of the Southern Tier West Regional Planning Board and currently sits as a member - and past president - of the New York State County Executives Association.
Edwards earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., and his Juris Doctor of Law from the University of Toledo. According to the board, Edwards will bring his professional, energetic and result-oriented approach to the Gebbie Foundation, and will advance its strategic mission to rejuvenate downtown Jamestown through investments in community and economic development initiatives.
"I am excited to join the team of professionals at the Gebbie Foundation, and I look forward to continuing to serve the community in this new role."

The Gebbie board conducted an extensive search through a Western New York human resource-consulting firm for an individual to replace the current CEO, John Merino. Merino announced his intention to retire from his position earlier this year.
