BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - A Jamestown native has been honored as the 2012-13 Collegiate Water Polo Association Men's Northern Division Sports Information Director of the Year.
Dan Scotchmer, who recently completed a year-long internship in the Harvard University athletic communications office, was selected, along with the Crimson's Brett Moore, for having ''achieved notable excellence in the field of water polo communications during the past academic year.''
Scotchmer, who graduated summa cum laude from Kent State University in 2012 with a bachelor of science degree in sports administration, served as a Harvard athletics communications assistant from August 2012 to June 2013.
In his time at Kent State, the 2008 Jamestown High School graduate was one of the radio voices for the nationally-ranked baseball team and the sideline reporter for the football team. Scotchmer also worked in the athletic communications office as a student assistant where he wrote press releases, game stories and feature articles.
In 2011, Scotchmer served as the media relations manager for the Jamestown Jammers of the New York-Pennsylvania League. During his tenure, the Jammers were featured on the MLB Network, Fox Sports Florida and BBC for the first time in team history. Also that summer, Scotchmer served as the assistant press box coordinator for the Babe Ruth 13-15 World Series in Jamestown.
Prior to entering college, Scotchmer worked at The Post-Journal as a sportswriter, covering local high school and junior college athletics. He is currently employed in the managerial development program at M&T Bank.
Scotchmer and Moore are the fourth and fifth sports information directors at Harvard to garner an SID of the Year Award from the Collegiate Water Polo Association.
