SHERIDAN (AP) - A tractor-trailer fire led to closure of the New York State Thruway between Exits 58 and 59 on Monday morning. There were no injuries, either to the driver or the responders.
The Fredonia Fire Department received the alarm at 8:36 a.m. Firemen found a trailer filled with food service supplies fully involved at mile post 460.9 eastbound. Officer in charge Lieutenant Randall Butts reported it took more than two hours to extinguish the fully loaded trailer. Irving and Hanover Center fire departments also assisted at the scene. The Thruway was closed until the fire was extinguished.
State police from Troop T in Dunkirk also reported to the scene. While not reporting the driver's name, a spokesperson in Dunkirk indicated the driver was from Ohio.
According to the media department of the Thruway authority, the left eastbound lane reopened at about 10:50 a.m. and all westbound lanes were reopened shortly after at about 11 a.m. The right eastbound lane was the last to re-open at about 1:45 p.m. By about 2:45 p.m., the delays were clear and traffic was moving normally.
