A bill that passed the New York state Legislature unanimously would require new central service technicians to become certified and maintain continuing education credits. This legislation is awaiting the governor's signature, A.878-a (Bronson) / S.697-a (Grisanti).
Central service technicians are responsible for ensuring that instrumentation and equipment used in medical and surgical procedures is properly cleaned, disinfected, inspected and sterilized prior to patient use. Central service technicians are critical contributors to the delivery of quality patient care.
If you or someone you love has undergone a surgical procedure, a central service technician was directly responsible for the cleaning and sterilization of the instruments used throughout your operation.
I urge the governor to sign A.878-a/S.697-a into law, which will make patients in New York health care facilities safer.
