On behalf of the American Cancer Society and the planning committee for the 2013 Relay For Life of Southern Chautauqua County, I would like to thank our local residents for showing us their hope, generosity and support. More than 30 teams spent time walking relay style around Frewsburg School Track to raise over $50,000 for the American Cancer Society.
More than 100 cancer survivors opened the event by walking the Survivor Lap as community members, family and friends honored them with a round of applause. At nightfall, over 1500 luminaries were lit around the track, each one representing a loved one who has been diagnosed.
I want to thank all of the volunteers who helped to make the event a success. Without them, we never would have made it to this point. I would also like to thank this year's sponsors and donors for their generosity.
All funds raised through Relay For Life will create a world with less cancer and more birthdays by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, by finding cures and by fighting back. If you or someone you know is diagnosed with cancer, the American Cancer Society can help. Call 1-800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org
