The registration deadline for the first annual Pickleball Tournament has been extended to Wednesday. Registration forms are available at the Lakewood YMCA, Marsh's Market in Bemus Point and the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation in Jamestown. Electronic registration forms are also available on the foundation's website, crcfonline.org. The cost of the tournament is $25 and includes lunch and a tournament T-shirt.
The tournament is part of The Pickleball Extravaganza to be held at LaGrega Courts in Lakewood on Saturday, July 20. Local pickleball players, and those interested in learning more about the sport that combines badminton and table tennis, are invited to attend.
The extravaganza begins at noon with a pickleball demonstration. A round-robin style tournament will follow at 12:30 p.m.
The tournament will be broken down into three divisions; advanced, intermediate and recreational. Each player will play a minimum of six games with a different partner in their division. The top four players from each division will compete in a final round. Bemus Point Pottery has provided specially designed ceramic plates as awards for each division.
Throughout the afternoon, players will be able to compete in a number of pickleball-related skill games, such as fastest serve and accuracy, for prizes.
For questions call tournament coordinators Scott Sawyer, 720-0094, or Jim Fincher, 665-3246.
In honor of its 35th anniversary celebration, all proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Fund for the Region at the Community Foundation.
In case of inclement weather, the tournament will be played indoors at the Lakewood YMCA.
