Elwyn K. Town of Fredonia, husband of the late Muriel J. (Smith) Town, passed on to that un-discovered country from whose bourne no traveler returns on July 11, 2013.
Born in Villenova, N.Y., on Nov. 23, 1931, he was the son of Frederick C. and M. Eloise (Johnson) Town who preceeded him in death, along with a brother, Dorr F. Town.
A mechanical engineering technician by degree,
Mr. Town graduated from the Fredonia public schools and the New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Buffalo, N.Y., and was employed in quality control, industrial engineering and maintenance at the local BOCES.
During the Korean war Mr. Town served with the 568th ordinance heavy maintenance company near Seoul, Korea. He earned the usual rank, ribbons and awards during his tour of duty. Mr. Town was an active member and past master of Forest Lodge 166 F&AM, during retirement he also kept busy with church, family, beloved dogs, friends and enjoyed his role as the neighborhood mower repairman!
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Michael E. and Carolyn S. (Vogt) Town; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn A. and Jack P. LeBarron Jr.; two grandchildren: Jennifer L. Town and Kenneth M. Town; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church of Ripley, 84 W. Main St,. Ripley N.Y. on Sunday, July 14, 2013, at 4 p.m. A reception will immediately follow at the church. The family suggests, in leu of flowers, that donations be made to Forest Lodge 166, Building Fund, P.O. Box 47, Fredonia, NY 14063.
