FALCONER - The American Legion Soaring Eagles climbed to within a game of .500 after taking both contests of a baseball doubleheader with visiting Lancaster on Saturday at Falconer Park.
Michael Wilcox pitched and hit the Eagles to a 9-6 victory in game one, hurling seven innings of nine-hit ball with six strikeouts before delivering a three-run triple in the bottom of the seventh that broke a 6-6 tie.
Wilcox finished the game with three hits, including a double and the aforementioned triple, while teammates Nolan Hunt, Trent Thompson, Collin Stack and Zach Buckley each hit a double and a single.
Thompson took the hill in the nightcap and surrendered three runs on six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts on the way to earning the complete-game victory, 12-3.
The Soaring Eagles plated five runs in the third inning, making the score 8-1 and putting the game from reach early.
Hunt continued his hot hitting, going 4-for-4, while Wilcox (double), Buckley (double) and Brett Dehner (two doubles) had a pair of hits each in the win.
The squad, now 7-8 overall, is back in action tomorrow at Falconer Park. The game is slated to begin at noon.
