Matthew Anthony Podniesinski peacefully moved into serenity with God, surrounded by his beloved wife and children on June 15, 2013.
As the youngest of four children of Gregory and Helen (nee Grabowski) Podniesinski, he was born on June 14, 1931, in Cheektowaga, N.Y.
After a long successful career in education, as a teacher and coach in the Royalton Hartland Central School District, various ad-ministrator positions, in-cluding school district superintendent, with the Bemus Point Central School District, and program director with the New York State Department of Education, he turned to helping others as a deacon through the parishes of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Fredonia, N.Y., and St. Louis Roman Catholic Church in Clarks-ville, Md., and area hospitals. He also served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a former resident of Bemus Point and Fredonia, N.Y.
He is survived by the love of his life which was celebrated in a marriage lasting over 59 years, Georgiana (nee Scanlon); and his seven children: Honor Marie (Ronald) Kennedy, MaryEllen (Mark) Amtower, Matthew Podniesinski, Gregory (Karen) Pod-niesinski, John Podniesinski, Kate Marie (Joseph) Schineller, and, Michael (Louba) Podniesinski. A devoted grandfather, he cherished his time with Sean and Mariah Kennedy, Elora and Travis Amtower, Emma and Matthew Pod-niesinski, Katia and Andrew Schineller and Ian and Grace Podniesinski. He is also survived by his dear friend and brother-in-law, Walter J. Gardon; and many nieces, nephews and their families.
He was a fair and forgiving man who loved his wife and children dearly, and followed his calling with dedication and devotion. His commitment to serve others was given freely with humility to his community, profession and faith with sincerity and conviction.
The family suggests that remembrances be made in celebration of Matthew to Christ the King Seminary, where he prepared for his journey to serve as deacon.
Remembrances may be directed to the attention of Monsignor James E. Wall, c/o Christ the King Seminary, 711 Knox Road, East Aurora, NY 14052.
