Several student athletes at Jamestown Community College's Jamestown Campus have been recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for their academic achievements.
Students must achieve grade-point average and athletic participation expectations to be recognized at regional and national levels.
JCC was recognized as having the 2012-13 academic women's swimming and diving team of the year. Members included Allison Chitester, Emily Holt, and Kelsey Akin of Frewsburg, Danelle Turney of Jamestown, Emily Windoft of Lakewood, Erin Holley of Sinclairville, Hannah Grable of Pittsfield, Pa., Renee Massa of Russell, Pa.; Sarah Madison of Warren, Pa., and Victoria Matteson of Corry, Pa.
Fifteen JCC students were recognized with NJCAA academic student-athlete awards. Emilyann Pleszewski of Fredonia (soccer) achieved the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence with a 4.0 grade point average, one of 169 students throughout the U.S. to receive the honor.
The NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Achievement (3.80 to 3.99 GPA) was presented to Kelsie Beaver of Randolph (basketball), Brittany Brace of Jamestown (volleyball), Sarah Madison of Warren (swimming and diving), Anna Nietupuski of Cassadaga (volleyball), and Brenton Wilcox of Cassadaga (golf).
The NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement, for those achieving a 3.60 to 3.79 GPA, was earned by Kelsey Akin and Emily Holt of Frewsburg (swimming and diving), Nicholas Anderson and Gage Bird of Jamestown (soccer), Linnea Anderson of Falconer (soccer), Chad Buck of Kennedy (golf), Cody Crandall of Jamestown (baseball), Jordan Farnham of Bemus Point (golf), and Hannah Grable of Pittsfield (swimming and diving).
JCC's golf, women's soccer, and women's volleyball teams on the Jamestown Campus and the women's soccer team on the Cattaraugus County Campus were also recognized as all-academic teams.
