Family-friendly fun, food and live entertainment for adults awaits area residents at the Frewsburg Fire Department Gala Days.
In its 89th year, the Frewsburg Fire Department Gala Days upholds a tradition of providing area residents with a celebration, which also serves as a primary fundraiser for the department.
The event features rides for children by Midway of Utica, games, vendors, I Got It, giveaways, Fowler's Taffy and a lot of food. In addition to the traditional fair-style-fare, the Frewsburg Firemen are also serving food such as Italian sausages with peppers and onions, hot dogs, fish sandwiches, hamburgers, fries and fish fries on Friday and Saturday evening. All proceeds from the firemen's food sales go directly to the Frewsburg Fire Department. Live entertainment in a beer tent will be provided by Smokin' 45 tonight from 8-11 p.m., Night Shift on Friday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Black Widow Band on Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

An hour-long grand parade is also scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m., which will feature area fire departments, marching bands and floats. Plus, a fireworks display is scheduled at dusk on Saturday. The fireworks will run for approximately 30 minutes.
According to Cory Lauffenburger, Frewsburg Fire Department president, the event is the department's biggest fundraiser of the year.
"All of the funds go to the Fire Department to help us purchase new equipment," said Lauffenburger. "We just purchased a new truck this year, that cost us $324,000. Part of the funds for that came from the town, and part came from the Gala Days."
Lauffenburger recalls that many other area fire departments used to host similar events, but not so much anymore, he said.
"It's a lot of work, but it's a lot of fun too," said Lauffenburger. "Come eat a lot, because we have tons of food and the proceeds go straight to us."
Laura Hale, of Frewsburg, attends the festival because it's a ton of fun, she said.
"I've been coming for years," said Hale. "It's a community event, it's for a good cause and it's just fun."
Food purchases are made with cash. Tickets for rides are $1 for one, or an unlimited day pass can be purchased for $15 on select days. The Frewsburg Fire Department Gala Days festival is located at 88 W. Main St. in Frewsburg. For more information search for "Frewsburg Fire Gala Days" on Facebook.
