Carolyn Wesp's fourth grade class at Southwestern Elementary School was recently honored for their winning participation in the Media One WJTN program, The Young Reader's Radio Quiz.
The class had more winners than any other kindergarten through sixth grade classroom among the 15 schools throughout the area that took part in the yearlong contest. The class was treated to ice cream and given $100 for their classroom library.
The Young Reader's Radio Quiz is a joint project of WJTN radio and the James Prendergast Library in Jamestown. The daily contest is only open to young readers in kindergarten through fourth grades and airs at 7:20 a.m. every school day. Each morning, Dennis Webster asks a question about a children's book. The first young reader to call in and correctly answer the question is that day's winner and receives numerous prizes. There is one winner per day. Prizes for each winner of the Young Reader's Radio Quiz are delivered by certificate, and mailed to the winner's home or delivered to the winning student's school office.
