The participants of the Chautauqua Adult Day Care in Jamestown began the spring season planting a vegetable garden. The garden consists of sweet onions, romaine lettuce, cucumbers, green peppers, tomatoes, peas and radishes. The garden has been successful this season, and the participants have even been able to enjoy their home-grown healthy snacks at the day program.
Chautauqua Adult Day Care Centers Inc. is a nonprofit United Way agency, which offers affordable Senior Day Programs for adults 60 years of age and older who live in the community. The agency has four sites that serve all of Chautauqua County. The programs provide socialization and offer many opportunities for older adults to participate in activities during the day in a friendly atmosphere with supportive staff and companionship.
The sites provide breakfast, snack and a noon time meal for participants. There is also a Community Recreation Program that helps people participate in outings in the community, and the sites offer pet therapy, ceramics, music programs, arts and crafts and more on an ongoing basis. There is also a Saturday program available in Jamestown. Funding is available. For more information visit www.seniordayprograms.com or call Jamestown 664-9759.
