The hitting of Angelo Mora of the Williamsport Crosscutters definitely had an impact in the Jamestown Jammers (4-2) suffering their first home loss of the New York-Pennsylvania League season on Saturday night.
Mora blasted a grand-slam home run and an RBI single as the Crosscutters (2-4) salvaged the final game of the three-game series by a 10-4 margin at Diethrick Park.
Jamestown started fast in the first inning against starter Mitch Gueller (2-0) as Jodaneli Carvajal was safe on an error by second baseman Jairo Cardozo followed by Elvis Escobar's single. After Gueller fanned Harold Ramirez, Carvajal and Escobar stole second and third base to set the stage for Danny Collins, who drilled a three-run home run over the left-center field fence for his league-leading fourth homer of the season.
The Jammers missed a golden opportunity to score against Gueller in the second as Francisco Apointe led off with a triple and Dave Valesente walked. But Gueller set down the next three batters and went on to retire 12 in a row.
Zach Green of Williamsport got one run back in the second inning by leading off with a solo home run to left off Isaac Sanchez. That was Green's third home run of the season.
The fourth inning was when Williamsport took the lead for good at 5-3 courtesy of Mora's grand-slam home run. Jovany Lopez (0-1) retired the first batter, but proceeded to walk Logan Pierce, Justin Parr and Gustavo Martinez to set the table for Mora, who sent his second home run over the left field fence.
Mora doubled home a run during the two-run sixth and scored himself on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Knapp as Williamsport took a 7-3 lead.
Jamestown scored its final run in the sixth when Harold Ramirez and Mike Fransoso hit doubles to get within 7-4.
However, the Crosscutters added insurance runs by scoring three times in the eighth off Cesar Lopez. Mora led the charge with a double and a stolen base as Williamsport stole six bases in as many attempts during the game. A single by Andrew Knapp scored Mora and doubles by Green and Jiandido Tromp delivered the other Williamsport runs.
Jamestown travels to State College to begin a three-game series at 6:05 p.m. today.
