The Jamestown YMCA will be offering a special Grandma/pa and Me Week from June 24-28 during which grandparents may bring their grandchildren to the Y for free to participate in select classes right along side of them. The classes include SilverSneakers Classic on Monday and Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., Active Older Adult Exercise on Tuesday and Thursday at 9 a.m., Zumba on Thursday at 9:30 a.m., Water Exercise on Monday at 9:15 a.m. and Family Swim on Friday at 7 p.m.
Grandma/pa and Me Week provides grandparents an opportunity to impress upon their grandchildren the importance of staying physically active. Many children spend far too much time watching television and playing video games during school breaks. Such behavior has attributed to the national child diabetes health crisis.
The YMCA supports parents and grandparents concerned with the physical, emotional and spiritual health of their children by supplying a safe, wholesome environment where parents, grandparents and children can learn to communicate, cooperate and care about each other while engaging in healthy activities.
