William C. White, 90, died on June 8, 2013, at the Veterans Hospital in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Born in Limestone, N.Y. on Sept. 1, 1922, to Joseph and Grace White, he lived on Chautauqua Lake at Loomis Bay for many years, and then in Jensen Beach, Fla., for the past 30 years.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-45, captured at the Battle of the Bulge and held prisoner for five months in Germany.
He was a life member of the American Legion and served as Commander of Post 1286 in Lakewood, N.Y.
He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Rena Ammons White; by his brother, John White; three sisters: Marion McCartney, Laurel Krise, Mavis Patterson; and by his grandson, Kevin Swanson.
He is survived by two daughters: Susan (Bob) Cusimano, of Cooper City, Fla., Virginia (Dave) Swan-son, of Jamestown; a sister, Patricia (Ron) Stephens, of Vero Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren: Rick and Steve Cusimano, Jeff and Tim Swanson; six great-grandchildren: Olivia, Caroline, Hunter, Tyler, Brandon and Ava.
He attended services at Zion Covenant Church when he lived in Jamestown, Trinity Methodist in Jensen Beach, Fla., and Chapel by the Sea on Hutcheson Island. He also attended services while a resident in the long-term care unit of the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center
He had a lengthy career with Sears, Roebuck & Co., where he retired as a manager of several departments
At his request, he and his wife will be buried together at the South Florida VA National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Fla. on Wednesday, June 26, in an honors ceremony performed by the VA, at 10:30 a.m.
