ITHACA - Freshman Nolan Ditcher tied for fifth place overall when the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Golf Championships came to a close on Monday at Cornell University's Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.
Ditcher, from Randolph, was Section 6's top finisher in the event after carding back-to-back 76s on the par-71 layout for a two-day total of 152.
The winner was Shaker High School's (Section 2) Davis Jensen, a senior who fired the low-round 73 on the final day of competition for a 5-over-par total of 147. Jensen edged Alex Bard, a freshman from New Hartford of Section 3, who finished with a 150 total.
Behind Ditcher from Section 6 was senior Danny Weimer of Silver Creek, who recorded a 74-81-155 for 12th place, junior Wil Lockwood of Maple Grove, who bounced back from an 85 on Sunday with a 77 for a 162 total and a tie for 36th, and junior Joe Conti of Fredonia, who shot 84 and 88 for a 172 and a tie for 71st.
Section 3 won the sectional title with a two-day total of 1,098, which includes the best seven-out-of-nine scores from both rounds. Section 5 was second, seven shots off the lead.
Section 6 rounded out the top five with a team total of 1,112.
