FORESTVILLE - Ryan Robson and Jeremy Cole combined on a one-hitter when No. 9 Sherman turned back No. 8 Forestville in a Section 6 Class D quarterfinal baseball game on Monday.
Robson pitched the first five innings and gave up just one hit while Cole went the final two innings and didn't allow a hit when Sherman (6-8) routed Forestville (5-9), 10-2.
Robson fanned nine and walked two while allowing only a third inning double by Van Vlack in his five innings. Cole, meanwhile, struck out three in hurling two innings of scoreless relief.
Corie Alger stroked three hits and scored three times, Kyle Carpenter and Collin Finch added two hits for the Wildcats. Carpenter drove in three runs with two coming on a double.
The Wildcats scored in each of the first five innings with three being the most in the fifth. Forestville had two unearned runs in the fourth when it made three errors.
Sherman now travels to No. 1 Clymer on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. quarterfinal game.
WEST VALLEY - No. 7 West Valley (10-9) will be moving on in the playoffs after posting a 14-5 win over 10th-seeded Ellicottville .
West Valley took a 2-0 lead after two innings, then exploded for six runs in the third to put the game away, giving starter Derek Wells plenty of support.
Wells went the distance, producing 10 strikeouts while giving up three walks and seven hits. He helped his own cause with a bases-clearing double in fourth and three RBIs.
In addition, Jared Ras, Marcus Enster and Keegan Kittle all doubled and Cole Stanbro added two triples and Collin Proctor had a triple.
For the Eagles, Alex Delity had two hits.
