MAYVILLE - Chautauqua Lake (6-5, 9-5) gave front-running Forestville (10-1) a scare before losing in a Division 3 girls softball game on Tuesday afternoon.
Down by a 9-6 score entering the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Thunderbirds scored once on a wild pitch and had the tying runs on base when the final out was made on a long flyout and dropped a 9-7 decision.
Alisha Szumigala of Forestville ended the game by making a catch in deep center field on Gina Sena with the tying runs on base.
Ryanne Dugan was the winning pitcher, allowing eight hits while striking out seven walking four. In defeat, Lauren Cummings gave up 11 hits with three strikeouts and seven walks.
Lizzy Gilman drove in four runs with two singles, Ashley VanBuskirk and Lydia Bruger added two hits for the winners.
Hannah Rauh contributed two hits and an RBI while CL teammate Ashley Moulton had an RBI double. Moulton was among six other players that had a hit in a losing cause.
