Prizes will be awarded to all 10 of the top scorers in Prendergast Library's Scrabble tournament scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The first-place winner will receive a Kindle Fire HD; second place, a Scrabble Deluxe Wood Edition; third place, a Scrabble Diamond Deluxe; and fourth through 10th place, an official Scrabble Dictionary.
Trinity Biotech donated toward the prizes in appreciation for being able to send employees to the library for free advanced Excel computer classes. Tom Rankin, Goodell's law partner at Goodell & Rankin, serves as treasurer of the library's board of trustees.
Library Director Tina Scott, left, shows Nicole Kingsley, financial controller of Trinity Biotech and Assemblyman Andy Goodell prizes purchased for the Prendergast Library Scrabble tournament, which will be held this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Participants will play two 45-minute rounds, with three minutes for each turn. After their scores are totaled, the top 10 players will challenge each other in a "sudden death round."
Signups are being accepted at the Prendergast Library Information Desk, 509 Cherry St., Jamestown. Those interested can also register the morning of the tournament in the Fireplace Room.
Admission is $15 to benefit the library, and refreshments will also be available for sale. Funds raised by the event will be used to provide library materials and services.
