Five Johnson's Black Belt Academy students recently received their first-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate from their instructor, Rick Johnson. The testing was a five-hour process that included a comprehensive written test and a testing of all of their martial arts basics, self defense, forms (Kata), sparring skills, and physical abilities. The testing concluded with a promotional ceremony attended by 12 current black belts who assisted with the testing. In front, from left, are Johnson and Brandon Okruch. In the second row are newly-promoted black belts Steven Lamb and Lindsey Okruch. In back are newly-promoted black belts Jessie Limnamen, Zachry Tucher and Ross Betts.
