CLYMER - Austin Crosby allowed one hit in six shutout innings, lifting the Clymer Pirates to a 15-2 victory over Ellicottville in a Division 4 baseball game on Tuesday.
Crosby struck out 10, walked three and was aided by a six-run sixth inning that put the game out of reach.
Leading the way offensively for the Pirates (8-3, 7-2) were Matt DeStevens (double, triple, two RBIs), Mitch Einink (double, two singles, two RBIs), Tom Heiser (double) and Adam Honey (two-run single).
Crosby gave way to Andrew Heil, who worked the seventh inning and gave up one earned run.
WEST VALLEY - Collin Proctor connected on the go-ahead, two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning and Derek Wells hurled seven innings of five-hit ball with a season-high 14 strikeouts as West Valley edged Sherman, 6-5.
Trailing 5-3 in the bottom half of the sixth, Cole Stanbro led off the deciding frame with a double, and then scored when Jared Ras tripled one batter later. With Ras 90 feet from crossing home and another teammate on second after having drawn a walk, Procton smacked what would become the game-winning single to secure for West Valley (7-5, 3-4) its seventh victory this season.
Wells, meanwhile, was pinpoint on the mound. In addition to his 14 strikeouts, he walked just two batters and surrendered only one earned run.
For Sherman, which fell to 2-6 in league, Jake Ames led the way with three hits in four at-bats.
