Luc Gerdes of the North American Hockey League North Division champion Jamestown Ironmen is off to Colorado College, an NCAA Division I school.
Gerdes, at 6 feet, 175 pounds, led Jamestown in scoring during the regular season with 48 points, including 27 goals, while playing in all 60 games. Gerdes then followed with a goal and six assists in six playoff games as the Ironmen swept the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings and the St. Sault Marie Soo en route to winning the North Division title.
A native of Eden Prairie, Minn., Gerdes was acquired by Jamestown from the Topeka Roadrunners midway through the 2011-2012 season. Prior to his NAHL debut with Topeka, Gerdes played three seasons of high school hockey for Eden Prairie.
While ecstatic about the fact that he'll be moving on to the NCAA Division I level after this season, Gerdes remains focused on the task at hand for the Ironmen, who are off to Frisco, Texas, for the Robertson Cup tournament as North Division champs.
In round-robin play, the Ironmen play Amarillo on Friday at 8:30 p.m., a team to be determined on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., and Bismark on Sunday at 8:30 p.m.
Two teams with the highest point totals after round-robin play will battle in the championship game on Monday at 8:30 p.m.
All games will be shown at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena.
