SYRACUSE - Fredonia was the only area school to have both its baseball and softball teams listed in the most recent New York State Sportswriters Association rankings.
The Hillbillies, who reached the Far West Regional game last season, have won their first 11 contests this year, earning them a No. 2 ranking for Class B.
The Lady Hillbillies, meanwhile, have had a similarly strong start, winning nine of their first 10 on the diamond for a No. 20 ranking.
In Class C baseball, Portville is No. 18 at 5-2 overall while Pine Valley (5-3) and Brocton (3-3) make the list at Nos. 12 and 20, respectively, for Class D.
Behind the Lady Hillbillies at No. 25 in Class C is Olean, which is enjoying an 11-3 start. Frewsburg, which has reached the New York State Public High School Athletic Association state tournament in each of the past two seasons, is No. 20 in Class C thanks to its 7-3 mark.
Rounding out the list is Forestville, Ripley and North Collins of Class D.
The Lady Hornets (3-1) are No. 7, the Lady Eagles (5-1) No. 9 and North Collins, at 7-1 overall, comes in at No. 20.

In other NYSSWA rankings, Silver Creek, led by University of Viginia-bound senior Zeddie Williams, is No. 2 in Class C.
The Black Knights boast a perfect 8-0 record, and are one of just 14 squads in the state that remains undefeated.
