Teams interested in playing in the 2013 Street JAM 3-on-3 basketball tournament must register online at www.jamestownstreetjam.net by Saturday, May 11.
The tradition of outdoor basketball will return for the 17th straight year when The Resource Center and Filling the Gap, Inc., present Street JAM. The event will be held June 1 and 2 on the streets of downtown Jamestown.
Street JAM will take place on West Third Street, between Main and Monroe streets. That section of the city has been the site of the 3-on-3 tournament on the first weekend in June the past six years.

Some members of the Street JAM planning committee are ready for the event on June 1 and 2. In front, from left, are Ricky Martin, Ashley Hammond, Kathy Field, Victoria Trass Bardo, Carol Vinciguerra and Mary Jo Hamilton. In the second row are Ron Hasson, Mark Morton, Sue Woods, Kayla Bohall, Karen Silzle and Kate Walker. In back are Steve Waterson, Bill Van Dyke, Cindy Phillips and Mike Suppa.
The annual basketball festival has been a staple in the Jamestown area since the first tournament was held in 1997. The event attracts hundreds of teams and thousands of spectators. In addition to providing exciting basketball action, the tournament also is a boon to local businesses, which benefit from the money spent by the players and fans.
"Looking over the past 17 years of street basketball on the streets of beautiful downtown Jamestown, one word comes to mind: pride," said Victoria Trass Bardo, who has been the tournament's director every year. "We are so proud that we, as an agency, can host such a fabulous event for our community. It really is a credit to the level of commitment from Filling the Gap and The Resource Center. Our thinking has always been that behind every event is experience, tireless effort from volunteers, flexibility, creative solutions, strong sponsors, and a lot of fabulous fun along the way.

"This event is not possible without all of those qualities in place. It is a matter of putting the right volunteer in the right role. People may be interested to know that we have a planning committee, which meets 10 months out of the year, made up of 18 people - some staff and many from the community. My gratitude to each and every one of you."
Organizers are grateful that again this year, the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena will serve as the focal point for the tournament. Player check-in will take place in the arena May 31 and June 1, and plans call for a number of special events connected with the tournament to be held in the arena that weekend.
Money raised from Street JAM will assist people with disabilities and their families in Chautauqua County.
