Janet M. DeLong, 81, of 839 Prendergast Ave., formerly of Maple Springs, N.Y., passed away at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday (April 30, 2013), in the UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie, Pa.
She was born June 15, 1931, in Jamestown, N.Y., a daughter of the late Burdette "Burt" and Edith Johnson Swanson.
She attended Jamestown High School, and was a member of the Jamestown Eagles Lodge Auxiliary.
Janet will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, who was known as a very talented seamstress. She also enjoyed crafting, reading, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and loved cats, especially her pride and joy, her cats, Jill and Scruffy.
Surviving are three sons: Daniel Cook of Panama, N.Y., Jeffrey (Cheryl) Cook of Midway, Ky., and Jon (Robin) DeLong of Tavernier, Fla.; five grandchildren: Adam Cook and Tamra Rice, both of Kentucky, Tara Strong of Georgia, Jason Cook of Jamestown, Sara DeLong of Florida; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Kidd Johnson of Jamestown; and a niece Cindy Welling of Sinclairville, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William R. (Dick) Cook; her second husband, James T. DeLong, who died in 1984; two sons: Jay DeLong, who died in 2003 and Jerry DeLong, who died in 1987, and a brother, Ronald Swanson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel W. Cook will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed.
