BROCTON - Behind the hurling of Wade Austin, Brocton (5-2, 6-4) remained a game behind frontrunning North Collins in Division 4 baseball on Tuesday.
Austin raised his record to 2-1 by throwing a six-hitter with eight strikeouts and two walks as Brocton beat Sherman, 7-2.
Both of the runs off Austin were unearned in the fourth and sixth innings.
Brocton scored three runs in the first highlighted by Tayler Apel's RBI single.
In the second, Scot Laurie hit a two-run single to make it 5-0 for the Bulldogs, who added a single run in the third and another in the fourth on a single by Dan Ferguson.
Jake Ames and Corie Alger had two hits for Sherman while teammate Ethan Lyon doubled for the lone extra-base hit of the game.
