OLEAN - The weather forecast for Saturday called for sunshine and temperatures in the 60s.
Ideal for what many perceive as the best mid-season gauge of area track and field competitors, the annual Olean Boosters/Ried's Food Barn track and field invitational.
And the assembled field of athletes didn't waste the opportunity to showcase their abilities, setting nine meet records and five track records on a day that saw Randolph Central School capture both the boys and girls Small School scoring titles.

Lancaster and Starpoint topped the girls and boys scoring totals in the Large School division.
The meet got off to a very fast start when the boys 3,200 relay saw both Starpoint and Maple Grove eclipse the meet's previous best time of 8:22.25. Starpoint's foursome clocked in at 8:13.99 while the Maple Grove quartet ran a 8:20.19.
Individually, Maple Grove's Christina Walter placed first in both the 100 (12.26) and 200 (26.10), setting meet and track records in each event.
Also on the girls' side, meet records fell in the 100 hurdles (Jamestown's Cienna Simon, 15.37) and 400 (Southwestern's Brittany Feldman, :59.06)
Boys meet records fell in the 400 (Starpoint's Adam Yacos, 50.53) , 400 hurdles (Jamestown's Mitchell Moore, 55.76) and 800 (Starpoint's AJ Joslin, 1:58.86).
Moore also captured the 100 hurdles in 15.66 to earn one of the four Fay Cosens Memorial plaques, which honor the former Olean High girls' track coach and long-time history teacher.
Not surprisingly, Walter was also a Cosens Award recipient.
In the field events, the Cosens Awards went to Alex Elderkin of Frewsburg for the boys and Alden's Miranda Daucher for the girls.
Elderkin doubled up with wins in the triple jump (41-0) and high jump (6-3) while Daucher placed first in the discus (118-3) and second in the shot put (37-5).
"I felt everything ran great today," OHS boys' coach and meet director Paul Ksionzyk said. "We had a good mix of large and small schools and the team scoring showed some good competition between the top teams in each division.
"I thought Christina Walter (MG) had an outstanding day. She's only a junior, she looked very strong.
"The day got off to an unbelievable start with the 4-by-800 relays, especially the finish in the boys race between Starpoint and Maple Grove," he said. "We had a girl win the pole vault (Lancaster's Jen Thill) with an 11-foot effort.
"(Olean) got a great day from John Panus in the distance and the (Barrett) Kemp from Oswayo Valley ran an amazing 3,200 and he did it after competing in Bolivar (Friday) night."
Kemp won the 3,200 in 9:42.41 while Panus, an OHS senior, ran second in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200.
"The last event of the day, the 1,600 relay, broke a three-way tie for second in the boys Large School division," Ksionzyk said. "Starpoint had already won the team title. We were tied with Lancaster and Jamestown with 72 points before that race.
"Even though we finished fourth, it was a great finish to an outstanding day of competition."
In other meet-related record-setting efforts, Allegany-Limestone's Owen Barber set a school record with a second-place effort of 10:35.2 in the 3,000 steeplechase. He broke the previous A-L mark of 10:45.85 set by Matt Phearsdorf in 2009.
