RIPLEY - Ripley played host to Brocton and the visitors had a late rally to pull out a 10-7 victory as the Lady Eagles suffered their first loss in Division 4 softball on Monday.
The Lady Bulldogs got out to a 5-0 lead after two outs in the first inning, highlighted by a home run to right field by Jess Merle.
Ripley (4-1) rebounded and actually took a 7-6 lead in the fifth, but Brocton scored three in the sixth to put the game away.
Merle picked up the win in relief for Brocton with four strikeouts while giving up no hits and one run. She also added a double and single. Morgan Bennett added two hits with a double and three RBIs and Abby Vanhort had two hits.
Emilee Steger went the distance for Ripley, striking out eight with three walks. She also had a double and a single with three RBIs, Ryleigh Hawkins slammed a triple and two singles and stole three bases and Kalisha Swoger had two singles.
