Doctors, residents and perhaps future patients were present Sunday as WCA Hospital unveiled its state-of-the-art Orthopedic Center.
Located behind the hospital on Sherman Street, the WCA Center for Orthopedics, Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation will keep some of its outpatient services closer to home.
"This is something that has been in the works for years," said Dan Johnson, WCA director of Rehabilitation Services. "We wanted to have a place that had easy access from the hospital. We just wanted to make it easier for everyone."

The rehabilitation center, formerly located on Glasgow Avenue, is housed in what used to be physician offices behind the hospital. Costs to build the entire center came from yearly renovation funding.
"We wanted to have this open house to allow the community to see what we have in the new building, and to let them know that we are right here," said WCA President Betsy Wright.
The first floor will of the Orthopedic Center contains rooms for physical and occupational therapy, speech and hearing, and sports medicine.
Dr. Brooke Kelly, physiatrist and director of medical rehabilitation, and Dr. Michael Glenn, orthopedic surgeon, were present Sunday. Both were optimistic the new center would cater to better outpatient needs.
"It's a real asset to have this right here and all under the same roof," Glenn said. "It's one-stop shopping for everything you will need."
Added Kelly: "It's definitely state-of-the-art. We can transfer patients here to do their rehabilitation; now it can be done more smoothly."
The addition of Dr. William Fritz to the orthopedic surgery team also was noted in the open house. Fritz came to the hospital a year ago, Wright said, bringing with him three-decades worth of orthopedic medicine experience.
"We are delighted that Dr. Fritz is with us," Wright said. "A lot of people are glad to see him here."
