MYRTLE BEACH , S.C. - Behind Sam Mott's pitching, Frewsburg captured the D Division girls softball title (purple group bracket) at the Grand Strand Tournament on Friday in a game shortened to five innings and 70 minutes because of earlier rain.
Mott allowed only two singles with five strikeouts and two walks as the Bears (2-3) blanked Parkersburg, W. Va., 3-0.
Both singles off Mott came in the fourth inning while Frewsburg scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the first inning.

The rally was started by Reyanne Strong's single, Shawna Raymond was safe on an error and Mott helped her own cause with a two-run triple to center field. Pinch-runner Emily Johnson recorded the final run on a sacrifice fly by Emily Hair.
Other Frewsburg hits were singles by Alanna Blanchard, Karlee Foti and McKenzie Cass.
JHS SUFFERS CLOSE LOSS
MRYTLE BEACH, S.C. - Jamestown High School (1-3) lost a heart-breaking decision in its final game of the Mingo Bay Tournament on Saturday.
Jamestown was ahead of Socastee, S.C., 5-3, with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning when Jordan Renfrow hammered a three-run triple to win it.

The Red Raiders used a four-run fourth inning to grab a 5-3 advantage. Two runs scored on errors, another on a balk and Adam Westley singled in a run.
Jake Sisson accounted for the other Jamestown run in the third inning as he was hit by a pitch, stole second and third and came home on an overthrow by the catcher.
Westley pitched six innings, yielding three hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Both teams managed six hits.
On Friday night, Jamestown lost to host Conway, S.C., 10-0, as Jordan Gore threw a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts in a five-inning game.
Alex Guzman had the lone hit in the fourth inning for Jamestown, which opens the season with a road test at Clarence on Friday.
