LAKEWOOD - New businesses will be joining Dollar General in the plaza located next to Lakewood Cinema 8.
Bruce Turner of Turner Brokers said Stedman Coffee, Top Nails and Brown's Pools & Spas will be part of the plaza. The new businesses are part of the plaza's renovations that have been ongoing. Turner said he manages the property for Bocar Family Holdings.
"Well the plaza was foreclosed, this was sometime ago. When it was foreclosed it was in pretty tough shape. Outside of Dollar General, it had lost all of its tenants," Turner said. "When they asked me to manage it I said, 'Only if they spend money to fix it up to get some good tenants.' So they put $250,000 to $300,000 into the roof and $80,000 into the parking lot."

Turner said he is now in discussions with officials from a grocery store chain about also joining the plaza. Turner said the building has 61,000 square feet, with 30,000 square feet left to lease to businesses. Also, he said in the back of the plaza there is space for storage that is available for rent.
"With the money they have put into the building it is really taking shape," he said. "It has really come a long way since it was just Dollar General there. It is a nice location, and what we can do there is we can lease probably 50 cents on the dollar compared to the area by the mall."
The plaza also has the indoor weekend flea market. Turner said it is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and operates year-round.
"The project is coming along quite nicely, but we're aways from being totally done," he said. "It will depend on how quickly we can get tenants, and I think with what we have done up there we will attract more people."
