Clairbel Mae Cox Brown, 84, of Kennedy, passed away Wednesday (April 3, 2013) in Hamot Medical Center, Erie, Pa.
She was born Feb. 22, 1929, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Richard G. and Jessie Green Cox.
Clairbel was employed at VanSlyke Nursing Home for 10 years and cared for the elderly in their homes for more than 30 years. She worked for Twin Pines Taxidermy for five years, was a dedicated worker and never turned down a chance to work.
She loved life to the fullest. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were important to her. Her love and dedication to her an-imals was a driving force in her life and she was a proud member of the SPCA. Claribel enjoyed traveling, playing cards and bowling, having played at Twi-Lite Lanes for 20 years.
Surviving are two children: Jean Muniz and Donald A. (Roberta) Brown all of Kennedy; 10 grandchildren: Scott (Danielle) Green, Joe Proper, Alicia Muniz, Miguel (Danielle) Muniz, David Brown, James Brown, Patricia Brown, Tina (Jim) Shields, Michelle Brown, Brian Brown and Christopher Haight; 27 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law: Betty Brown and Clara Simmons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Brown, whom she married in 1946 and who died in 1982; three children: Judith Ann Brown in 1948, Joyce Elaine Brown in 1955, John David Brown in 1950; her son-in-law, Carmello Muniz in 2006; two grandchildren: Merle R. Green Jr. in 1986 and Lisa Proper in 2011; four sisters: Alice Miller, Frances Sustak, Alberta Caswell and Pauline Cox; two brothers: Richard Cox Jr. and Willi-am Cox; and her companion, Robert Caswell, with whom she lived for 21 years and who died in 2011.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Don Ray will officiate. Burial will be in Rutledge Cemetery.
Friends will be received by the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
