FORESTVIILLE - Behind the pitching of Cole Stanbro, West Valley began the baseball season successfully on Thursday afternoon.
Stanbro fanned 15 and gave up just four hits in six innings as the downed Forestville, 7-5, in a non-leaguer.
Dylan Westfall finished up for WV with a scoreless inning in which he fanned two to make it 17 strikeouts altogether.
The game was tied at 2-2 when the Wildcats took the lead with four runs in the fifth for a 6-2 edge. Mike Grigsby, who had two hits, started it off with a double and checked out with two hits.
Stanbro helped his own cause with a two-run double in the WV first inning.
Forestville's Cody Jackson was the only batter to solve the WV pitching with three hits, including a double.
