The community is invited to join the "Do One Thing" campaign under way at Jamestown Community College to raise awareness about environmental sustainability.
Pledges of action - from recycling to starting a garden to riding a bike rather than driving a car - have been posted at www.sunyjcc.edu/sustainability/DOT by JCC students and staff and several community members. Tom Meara, JCC's sustainability program coordinator, hopes at least 1,000 pledges will be posted by Earth Week, which begins April 22.
"The concept is simple," Meara said. "Commit to doing just one sustainable act. The pledge can be as easy or difficult as you want. It can be performed just one time, once a week, once a month, or the rest of your life."
The pledges also include unplugging unused electronic devices, buying locally grown goods and produce, switching to reusable containers and bags, and volunteering for organizations that promote sustainable actions.
