SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Freshman Jennie Thies scored four points as Gannon University (31-5) lost to Ashland College (35-1), 74-63, in the quarterfinals of NCAA Division II women's basketball tournament Tuesday night at Bill Greehey Arena.
Thies, a former Southwestern Central School star, was 2-of-3 from the floor, grabbed two rebounds and had a steal in 12 minutes of action.
Gannon led at 31-25 at halftime, but couldn't sustain it as Ashland went on a 25-4 run to start the second half.
Daiva Gerbec had 23 points, Taylor Woods 21 points and 10 assists and Kari Daugherty 15 points and 15 rebounds for Ashland, which plays Dowling of Long Island in the semifinals today.
Sparked by Daugherty, Ashland controlled the boards, 42-26.
Doriyon Glass scored 17 points and Brittany Batts 13 points for Gannon, which lost to Ashland, 70-59, earlier in the season.
