Since 2007, The John Edward McLaughlin Family Fund has supported the charitable activities of religious and nonreligious organizations in Randolph. All funds are administered through the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation.
In 2012, grants were awarded to a number of organizations in the Randolph community including, the Randolph Area Community Development Corporation for Camp Weeden, Camp Li Lo Li, the Randolph Fire Company, Randolph First Baptist Church and the Randolph Historical Society.
Organizations interested in applying for the 2013 grant cycle may complete an application form on www.chautauquagrants.org. The deadline for completed applications is April 15. For questions, contact the Community Foundation at 661-3390.
Applications are reviewed by a committee of Randolph citizens and final awards are approved by the Community Foundation's board of directors.
McLaughlin, a lifelong resident of the Randolph community, and his wife Bea owned and operated the Cain Oil Company, a gas service station and small store, in East Randolph for more than 20 years. They had one son, Patrick, who was born with medical and physical problems. Before McLaughlin's passing in 2001, he bequest a portion of his estate to create a fund to honor his hometown. To date, over $20,000 has been granted to a variety of organizations to better serve the community.
