After Isabella Stanford passed away in a sledding accident last month, many of the employees at WCA Hospital that worked with her mother began working to put together a fundraiser for the family to cover the costs that followed.
The employees will be holding a spaghetti dinner fundraiser at the Ashville Fire Department on Sunday from 1-4 p.m.
"We're doing this fundraiser to raise money for her to help pay the bills for her daughter," said Barb Jackson, a WCA employee that works with Isabella's mother, Anna. "We're having a homemade spaghetti dinner - the girls on staff here made the meatballs, the fresh homemade sauce is being made on Saturday morning. All of the desserts are homemade from the staff on 4D, too. It's been a joint effort by everyone and we're just overwhelmed by everything that everyone has given to make this happen."
According to Jackson, there will be roughly 50 baskets to bid on at the fundraiser, as well. The baskets, which will range from coffee and wine to gardening, men's items and more, have already been put on display in the hospital.
"Anybody and everybody has been buying chances at these already," said Jackson. "The event has really taken on a life of it's own."
There will also be opportunities for guests to win either a helicopter ride for three people or a private lesson for one, a $250 gift certificate for aesthetic procedures from Dr. Matthew Chang and a chair donated from Fancher Chair Co. A Silpada representative will also be at the event, donating all of the proceeds from their sales that day to the benefit. Additionally, there will be a 50/50 drawing at the fundraiser and DJ Sally Marsh will be providing the entertainment for the afternoon.
Jackson said that the volunteers are planning to cook enough food for 300 people, but even if guests aren't planning on eating, they're still welcome to come to the event.
"I'd really like to thank the public in advance for all of the donations that we've gotten," said Jackson. "Several local stores in the community pulled together, and we've had baskets donated from departments all throughout the hospital. People have really been generous to help us pull this off and they're still bringing us more baskets, too."
Following the fundraiser, the money will be donated directly to Anna to help pay for funeral expenses and other bills that have come since the accident. Jackson says that they don't have a specific goal amount in mind, but that anything will be appreciated.
"Anna is a hardworking woman and she works on our floor," said Jackson. "She hasn't been back since her daughter was killed and she doesn't make a ton of money, so we're trying to help her out. We're just hoping that we'll have a good turnout and that we'll get plenty of donations."
The price for the dinner will be $8 for adults and $4 for children. The Ashville Fire Department is located at 5338 Stow Road, Ashville, near Hogan's Hut.
