Simon S. Depas, 83, formerly of 264 E. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, N.Y., passed away at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday (March 12, 2013), in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
A lifelong area resident, he was born Dec. 5, 1929, in Jamestown, N.Y., a son of the late Seraphim Vessel and Athena S. Koka Depas.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from Feb. 14, 1951, to Feb. 13, 1953, as a paratrooper.

He was employed by the former Maddox Table Company as a furniture finisher for more than 30 years and had also worked for several other furniture companies including Fancher Chair Company in Falconer.
He was a member of the American Bird Dog Association and the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club.
Surviving are his wife, the former Nina Nelson, whom he married July 4, 1954; a daughter, Diane Depas of Jamestown; a son, Terry Depas of Jamestown; three brothers: Thomas Depas of Jamestown, Chris Depas of Sharon Center, Ohio, and William Depas of Stow, N.Y.; and a sister, Martha Parry of North Carolina.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey A. Depas, who died May 10, 2012; a brother, Gust Depas; and two sisters: Fanny Papageorge and Mary Depas.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Childs, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Bentley Cemetery, Lakewood, N.Y.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
