Alton L. Deming, 88, of Jamestown, passed away Friday (March 8, 2013) in Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing Center.
He was born June 28, 1924, in Lander, Pa., the son of the late Lyman Chester and Orpha Johnson Deming.
Alton was a graduate of Jamestown High School and served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. In earlier years he had been a member of the Jamestown Eagles, Elks, and Moose clubs, Fluvanna War Vets and Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. Alton was one of the founding members of the Falconer Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing, traveling, and being very active in the great outdoors. Prior to retirement he had been a home contractor for Ludwig Construction.

Surviving is his daughter Sherry (Norman) Raymond of Falconer; three grandchildren: Michael Raymond of Jamestown, Rebecca Raymond of Maui, Hawaii, and Kelly (George) Patti of Jamestown; four great-grandchildren: David Walker and Niki Walker, both of Maui, Hawaii, and Harrison T. Patti and Ethan C. Patti, both of Jamestown; two great-great-grandchildren: London and Natalia Walker of Maui; a sister, Alvera Nelson of Jamestown; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Alice M. Deming, whom he married Oct. 31, 1946, and who died Feb. 6, 2012; a grandson, Norman Raymond Jr.; and a sister, Aylce Deming.
His funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Joseph Janaczek, pastor of Our Lady of Loreto, will officiate. Burial will be in Busti Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be donated to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, NY 14701 or to a charity of one's choice.
