Middle School music teacher Mrs. Christensen believes that art offers inspiration in music.
With the help of their art teacher, Mrs. Mitchener, Julia Jablonski and Emily Rybicki, two seventh-grade students at Southwestern Middle School, have just completed a wall mount mural for permanent display in the music room.
The two have been working diligently over the past few months to complete a Vincent Van Gogh inspired painting of the Eiffel Tower at night, a place that Mrs. Christensen says is one of her favorites to visit.
Pictured from right are Emily Rybicki and Julia Jablonski, seventh-graders at Southwestern Middle School.
This is the second mural to be completed. The first was a multi-colored apple inspired by the music department's use of modern technology, and it was completed last year by the Middle School Art Club, and then installed this September.
The Middle School art students have completed several murals in the last few years, but these music room murals are different. These pieces are commissioned, which means that the production of work of art has been ordered.
These students have gotten a taste of what it is like to create art entirely for someone else. Mrs. Christensen, like a real client, has been involved in idea generation, the editing and the approval of both pieces.
This is a great way to cross the art and music curriculum and to brighten up the music room. More murals are currently underway.
