A friendship that started 15 years ago has now formed a partnership.
At the beginning of the year, Habiterra Architecture and Landscape Architecture design firm joined Clark Patterson Lee. Clark Patterson Lee has been a full-service design firm for nearly four decades. The firm has around 230 employees and 16 office locations in New York, Georgia, North and South Carolina. The business offers architecture, engineering, planning, interior design and construction services.
Richard B. Henry III, Clark Patterson Lee senior vice president, has been with the firm since 1989. He said the eventual partnership with Habiterra started around 15 years ago when Clark Patterson Lee was opening an office in Atlanta.

"We called Paul Hedin, (who was a Habiterra employee at the time) to help us with the office opening in Atlanta," Henry said. "That was the start."
Through the years, employees from both architecture firms would see each other when competing for projects. Through this competition, friendships were started.
David A. Walter, Clark Patterson Lee senior vice president, said about 18 months ago, officials from Clark Patterson Lee called to inquire about combining firms. Walter, who has been a Habiterra employee since 1989, becoming president in 2005, said he knew, at the time, Habiterra wasn't offering engineering services to go along with its architectural services.
"There were more and more request for these services," he said. "We saw the writing on the wall."
By joining with Clark Patterson Lee, the firm now offers mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, transportation and civil engineering services.
"We're now a full-service professional firm," Walter said. "We're gaining clients we couldn't get before because we now provide these services."
Walter said the business has kept the same staff and same clients during the transition from Habiterra to Clark Patterson Lee. Henry said both business have the same beliefs, which is why the transition has been seamless.
"We both subscribe to the same theory of being close to the community," Henry said. "We're community-minded and service-oriented. We're very invested in the community."
Henry said people have been asking about what has changed since the transition.
"We tell them, 'Only the name on the invoice has changed,'" he said.
Henry, who is a member of the Clark Patterson Lee board, said Walter has joined the board, as well.
"It was important for us to have him engaged in the leadership," Henry said about Walter.
The design professionals from Habiterra who joined Clark Patterson Lee have maintained the same Jamestown address of 1279 N. Main St. For more information on Clark Patterson Lee, visit www.ClarkPattersonLee.com or call 800-274-9000.
