An afternoon of entertainment will be raising money for WCA Hospital breast cancer awareness, research and treatment programs this weekend.
The fourth annual Pink Party, hosted by Salon 1 at Shawbucks, will take place Sunday from 1-5 p.m. According to event organizers, there will be haircuts for men and women, mini-manicures and pink extensions available, as well as a "duck dip," Chinese auction, silent auction and live auction with auctioneer Greg Himes. DJ Fish and Derek Davis and The Tasty Groove Band will be providing the live entertainment for the event. At last year's Pink Party, nearly $10,000 was raised for the WCA breast cancer program.
"This is our fourth annual Pink Party that we've held at Shawbucks, and so far we've been able to raise more than $22,000 for WCA Hospital through these events," said Marty Heric, manager of Salon 1.
Representing 106.9 KISS FM, Jamie Trusler and Sherrie Brookmire show off some of the auction items and a commemorative T-shirt that will be on sale at this Sunday’s got pink? event at Shawbucks in downtown Jamestown.
According to Heric, the Pink Party event was started by Mike Giunta of Salon 1 because of a personal connection to the cause.
"My boss, Mike Giunta, felt very passionately about helping in the fight against cancer, and four years ago he decided to do something about it," said Heric. "WCA was in need of some imaging machines for breast cancer detection, so he decided to start this event to help them out. He lost his mother to cancer, so it's always been something that he felt strongly about."
The fourth annual Pink Party will be sponsored by Salon 1, Shawbucks, 106.9 KISS FM, Designer Pools, QuickSolutions, Jeremy's Bel-View, RS Motors and the Jamestown Cycle Shop, which will also be providing the T-shirts and hats for that will be sold.
"The whole event is a lot of fun," said Heric The live auction is always a big draw, too. It's a lot of fun to bid against people, and it's for a good cause."
Shawbucks will also be donating 10 percent of any food and bar sales to the cause. In past years, proceeds from the event have been used to help purchase a digital mammography machine,
