LAKEWOOD - Sue Drago is seeking re-election as Lakewood Village trustee.
Drago was appointed village trustee in May 2011. Drago was then re-elected in March 2012.
''Sue is only the second woman to serve as trustee in Lakewood," said David Wordelman, Lakewood mayor. "Her service to the board stems from her roots in the community and her care and concern for the residents.''
Drago and her husband, Lou, have been Lakewood residents and property owners for 27 years. Their three daughters graduated from Southwestern Central School and St. Bonaventure University. All three of their daughters live and work in Western New York.
''An important issue that has been a focus of my time on the board has been keeping Lakewood a safe, affordable and desirable community in which to live. I continue to work to keep property taxes low through efficient and shared services. I have fostered a positive working relationship with the police and fire departments and the DPW. In my two years on the board, I have been actively involved in the budget process, bi-weekly and annual audits, various contracts, zoning and planning issues. I have seen the positive effects to the area with the recent additions to the community such as Olive Garden, TJ Maxx, Michaels and PetSmart. The Lakewood residents have increased recreational options with the opening of the public dock at Lakewood Beach and the new pickleball courts at LaGrega field," Drago said. "I see the continued need to promote the growth of our area small businesses, support local retail growth and encourage local industries to maintain good jobs in the community. I look forward to working more in the care and protection of Chautauqua Lake. It is vital to our area. I am dedicated to being an informed and common sense voice representing our village residents and making positive progress for our Lakewood.''
Village elections will be held from noon to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, in the Busti-Lakewood Recreation Center.
Drago's name will appear on both the Republican and the Property Rights lines.
