The Dunkirk Police Department Tuesday released the name of the individual killed by a train early Saturday morning.

According to police, Carl Long, 48, of Dunkirk, was killed when he was struck by a CSX train in the city around 3:20 a.m.

Police said Long was walking on the CSX tracks from the area near Woodrow Avenue and proceeded east on the tracks into the path of an oncoming westbound freight train. His vehicle was found parked in a driveway on the 300 block of Woodrow Avenue near the CSX tracks.

The Dunkirk Police Department was assisted in this investigation by the Dunkirk Fire Department, CSX Investigators, the Chautauqua County Coroner's Office and the Erie County Medical Center's medical examiners office.
