David Alan Carlson of Shrewsbury, Mass., passed away on Feb. 20, 2013, at UMass Memorial Health Center, Worcester, Mass.
He was born in Jamestown, N.Y., on Nov. 28, 1948, to Audrey and the late Bernard R. Carlson.
He was a former member of St. Luke's Church in Jamestown. He graduated from Falconer High School, class of 1966 and from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., in 1970.
Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1971. He served for several years in the South Pacific flying in the C130 and C141 cargo planes as a navigator. He served 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, and retired in 1993 as a lieutenant colonel.
He met his wife, the former Linda Cushing in Japan, and they were married Sept. 8, 1978. They resided in Charleston, S.C., for several years, where he was employed at Boat U.S. and Crowfield Golf Course before moving to Shrewsbury, Mass. He was an avid bowler and golfer and enjoyed his boat on the seaways of South Carolina.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by his daughter, Sara Mumby and granddaughter, Braunwyn Mumby, both of Denver, Colo.; his aunt, Nancy Osberg of Malvern, Pa.; his brother-in-law, Alvin Bailey of California; several cousins; and his dogs: Taz and Black Jack.
In addition to his father who died in 1982, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Sylvia Osberg of Jamestown, and Francis and Irene Bull of Erie, Pa.; his uncle, John Osberg of Malvern, Pa.; and his sister-in-law, Sandra Bailey of California.
At his request, there was no funeral. Visitation was held at Britton Funeral Home in Shrewsbury. Private burial was in Massachusetts.
