Jamestown Area Youth Soccer (JAYS) will host a free used soccer equipment distribution at its upcoming player and volunteer registration scheduled for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p;.m. at the Winifred Crawford Dibert Boys & Girls Club of Jamestown.
Anyone having clean, used soccer shoes, shin guards or soccer balls to donate may bring the items to the equipment exchange area during JAYS registration on Saturday or may drop donations off at the Boys & Girls Club front desk anytime this week prior to registration.
On Saturday during JAYS registration at the Boys & Girls Club anyone needing soccer equipment may pick up items at the exchange table, free of charge. No donation of equipment is required in order to pick up needed items. There are no guarantees of availability of particular equipment items or sizes as the donations and pick-ups will be ongoing throughout the day.
According to JAYS President Jeff Kroon, "We know that many families in the community have gently used soccer equipment in their basements and garages that their children can no longer use. Our goal is to make these items available free of charge to other players whose families are experiencing financial hardship."
He added, "The key is to motivate families to make the effort to bring in the donations. Last year the supply really didn't meet the demand, and we ran out fairly early."
JAYS league officials request that donated items be as clean as possible, and should be in usable condition. Matching shoes should be laced together for ease of identification. Those selecting equipment at the free exchange should be aware that all items are used and therefore may be somewhat worn.
JAYS is an all-volunteer run program and not formally part of the Boys & Girls Club. JAYS no longer has a central telephone number. Complete registration and other program information may be accessed by clicking the JAYS link at www.bgcjamestown.org or contacting email@example.com.
