Donald H. Neckers, 89, formerly of North Road, Findley Lake, N.Y., passed away peacefully at Absolut Care in Westfield, N.Y. on Feb. 28, 2013. He and his wife of 63 years, Evelyn J. Sphon Neckers (passed November 2008) were lifelong residents of Findley Lake, where they raised their children.
Son of Lephe and Henry Neckers, Don was also raised in Mina township. Don retired from General Electric in 1979, was a lifetime member of Findley Lake Volunteer Fire Department, and joined the Southtown Woodcarvers in Jamestown, N.Y., later in life. Don embraced nature and derived his greatest joys from fishing, gardening, camping, and showing off his beautiful wooden animal carvings. He was very dedicated to his family and is fondly remembered by all for "tinkering in his shop" and his ability to fix anything with duct tape.
Don's memory will be carried on by his surviving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His son, Jim (wife, Connie) currently lives in Hamilton, Ohio; and his two daughters, Katie (husband, Dustin) Swartzenberger and son, Alex who live in Ganville, Ohio, and Sherry (husband, Rob) Quactemeyer and their infant daughter, Julia, who reside in Cincinnati, Ohio.
His daughter, Betty (husband, Mike) Barnes currently lives in Mayville, N.Y.; and his one daughter, Jennifer (husband, Jody) Rager with two children, Sydnie and Gaberiel. Betty's stepson, Shawn (wife, Marica) lives in Columbus, Ohio with daughter, Veronica.
Daughter-in-law, Joan Neckers (husband, Larry passed in 2008) lives in Findley Lake, N.Y. and has two daughters, Laura (husband, David) Moran resides with her children, Mary, John, Anne, and Daniel in Canann, Conn., Missy (husband, Scott) Howard lives in Attica, N.Y. with two sons, Zakry and Jake.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; two sons, Larry and infant son Billy; and siblings, Arthur, Kenneth, Frances, and Genivieve.
Friends will be received from 1-2 p.m. with a memorial service to be held at 2 p.m. on March 5, 2013, at Spitzer Funeral Home, Sherman, N.Y. Don will be honored at the service by Minister Connie Neckers, beloved daughter-in-law.
