The Allen Park Women's Club celebrated its 71st Founder's Day with a dinner held in the Marvin House. Betty Johnson gave the invocation. Sue Schifano, chairwoman of the committee, was assisted by Marsha Leonard, Becky Nystrom and Pat Steubing.
Virginia Chase, president, welcomed the group and presided over the business meeting. Karen Johnson, historian, read the founding of the organization and noted that in 1949 members began the fudge concession at the band concerts in the park. Reports were given by Carol Drake, secretary, and Hillary Meyer, treasurer.
It was voted to transfer $2,500 to the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation fund for future senior exercise equipment in Allen Park. Carrie Wolfgang spoke on involvement in helping veterans. It was also voted to donate $300 to the Blue Star Mothers to help with postage in mailing packages to area war veterans. Shannon Neubauer discussed selling fudge at the Multiple Sclerosis Society Walk on Sunday, May 5, in Allen Park.
Yearbooks were distributed, and Sally Beckstrom, Cindy DiNapoli and Candy Joslyn were thanked for their work.
Community Bon Ton books were distributed to interested members.
The Interclub Council meeting is on March 18.
The calling committee will notify members of the Hands on Jamestown project and cleaning of Allen Park.
